You Are Worthy Of Self-Care
You do not have to earn it.
You do not have to run yourself ragged before allowing yourself that time of self-love.
You do not need to complete allllll the tasks on your to-do list first.
You do not need to completely empty your cup before you take time to fill it.
You do not need to feel guilty for practicing self-care.
You do not need to prioritize other people’s needs before you meet your own.
You can still be in the process of learning to love yourself *and* also engage in self-care.
Oftentimes, it is our own negative beliefs about ourselves - such as “I am unworthy” or “I am not good enough” - impact our ability to practice self-care.
And where do our negative beliefs often come from? Our formative years, when we spend the majority of our time with her family of origin - who you may, or may not, be spending time with this holiday season.
Regularly practicing self-care helps to increase our ability to handle stress (*cough cough* interacting with family during the holidays *cough cough*), yet it is the first thing to go when we feel overwhelmed.
Some things I love to do for self-care:
- Sit quietly and drink coffee out of my favorite mug
- Spend time with a good friend
- Take a nap
- Wear a cozy sweater
- Stretch or practice yoga
- Go for a walk outside
What would it be like for you to practice self-care today? Even just for 5 minutes?
